About the author

Mark Purvis is the Research Director at BZ Engineering Briefings. He has more than twenty years experience of reporting on the pump industry and related engineering sectors. A Chemistry graduate of the University of Oxford, he was first appointed by Elsevier as Editor of its leading international pump industry magazine World Pumps in 1989 and has been writing about the pump industry ever since.

He served as a Corresponding Member of the Advisory Committee of the Texas A & M University Pump Users Symposium for many years and was a member of the Europump Publications & PR Commission for more than ten years.

As Managing Editor and then Publisher, he introduced numerous developments to Elsevier’s publishing programme, including the launch of the Sealing Technology and Pump Industry Analyst newsletters, a series of highly valued market research reports (Profiles of the International Pump Industry) and other information products and services for the pump industry. He left Elsevier in 2006 but continues to write about the pump industry and other areas of industrial technology.
